On a visit to Romania in 1990, just after the fall
of communist dictator Nicolae Ceausescu, Philip saw thousands of children "warehoused"
in Romania's orphanage system. The children Philip saw lived
in conditions not fit to keep animals in.
They were malnourished,
dirty, diseased, unloved and unwanted. Philip began by adopting one child, his son Andrew (pictured right). Then, in a
sense, he adopted them all, by beginning a program to send
vital life-saving supplies on a regular basis.
Over the years, Philip Cameron Ministries has helped thousands
of children with: regular truckloads of food, medicines and
other vital supplies, fuel to heat orphanages, sending medical
professionals
and providing vehicles for transportation of
children and orphanage staff.
In 1995, the ministry's relief efforts were extended to Romania's
neighbor, Moldova. Philip "adopted" yet another
orphanage in the town of Hincesti. The year before Philip
arrived, thirty children froze to death in their cribs during
the brutally cold Moldovan winter, and sixteen more had already
perished that year. We are thrilled to report that not one
single child has suffered that awful fate since we began helping
this orphanage. (Watch a video from Moldova here!)
A forlorn little blue sign was the only indication that anyone lived in this desolate part of Moldova. We turned our vehicle down the seemingly endless muddy road and found a ramshackle orphanage in the tiny village of Cupcui.
We met the children and knew God had sent us into their tragic world... A WORLD WHERE FREEZING OR STARVING TO DEATH WERE CONSTANT FEARS.
The roof leaked in torrents. “When it rains outside for a day, it rains inside for a week,” they said. Black mold covered the walls. No heat, no hot water. Their drinking water was tainted—the children were drinking poison. THESE KIDS WERE IN DESPERATE TROUBLE.

Since God sent us to them, their world has completely changed. FOR THE VERY FIRST TIME IN THEIR LIVES, THEY KNOW WHAT HOPE IS.
The children are now clean, warm, well-fed, with safe water to drink. Major rebuilding work on the orphanage is now complete, although we continue to improve the facility. We must now focus on what happens to these young people when they are forced to leave the orphanage at age 16. WHICH BRINGS US TO STELLA...
Stella lived in the orphanage at Hincesti, the first place our ministry went to help in Moldova. At sixteen she was moved out. In the place she was sent to be “cared for,” she was treated brutally and she ran away. We searched desperately but never found her.
Finally, the dreaded news came… SHE WAS SELLING HER BODY TO LIVE. But worse news was to come...
“She’s dead… AIDS!” This tragic young girl was used by vile men
until they killed her.
EVERY YEAR IN JUNE, MORE “STELLAS” — INCLUDING THE CHILDREN YOU SEE HERE — ARE FORCED OUT OF ORPHANAGES ALL OVER MOLDOVA.
Moldova has been described as "the engine of the sex industry." Human trafficking is rampant. We have already created Hebron's Hope, a home for these kids near the Cupcui orphanage so that these children need not face the horrors of life on the streets.
NOW THIS MINISTRY IS BEING EXPANDED TO THE NATION'S CAPITOL IN CHISINAU, so that the kids who must live in the city to get an education can also have a safe place to stay, where Godly people will care for them, teach them about Jesus and keep them safe!
Now known as Stella's House, this home was purchased, construction was completed and it was beautifully decorated and furnished throughout by the faithful provision of God and the generous compassion of His people.
STELLA’S HOUSE NO.1 IS ALREADY SAVING LIVES RIGHT NOW!
Instead of a life of hopelessness, poverty and unspeakable danger, these kids are getting an education and living in a safe place where Godly people care for them, teach them about Jesus and keep them safe!
But this is just the beginning Stella’s House No.1 is full. Moldovan officials are already asking us, “What about the others?” With God’s help — AND YOURS — we are already working to build Stella’s House 2, with plans to expand and take care of as many of these youngsters as possible.
Pray with us that there will be no more tragedies on the streets of Moldova… Pray with us that there will be no more “Stellas.”

Stella's House No. 2. Under Construction
